Tollywood Heroes stay off Heroines

Tch… Tch… In case you wondered why the gossip columns do not have any juicy tidbits about the Tollywood stars, then here’s the inside dope.

The present crop of heroes totally understands the work-life balance. They also clearly demarcate their personal life and professional life. Gone are the days when the heroes had affairs with their heroines.

Not so long ago, there were instances of the lead actors falling in love and eventually getting married. But the heroes of today are happy being friends with their co-stars. They want to keep their personal life away from the limelight and are opting for girls who are not a part of the industry. Most of them opt for arranged marriages settled by their parents.

But the situation is quite opposite in neighbouring Kollywood. Surya married Jyotika, while Hansika Motwani and Simbu have come out in the open about their relationship. Siddharth and Samantha are together. There are rumours that Nayantara is dating Aarya.

However, back home, heroes are playing it safe by keeping off controversies. Though there is the occasional gossip, most heroes are either getting married to girls from outside the industry or having arranged weddings.

Tamanna disappointed

Though not very apparent, Tamanna is having a heavy heart over the recent change in casting for a famous remake project. Director AR Murugadoss‘s ‘Ramana’ is to be remade in Hindi, by director Krish of ‘Vaanam‘ fame.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is essaying the lead role in the movie and it was earlier decided that Tamanna should do the role of the heroine.

After her success with ‘Himmatwala‘ with Ajay Devgn, Tamanna is ensuring that she does not leave any stone unturned, and is looking forward to doing maximum number of projects in Bollywood.

However, the makers had a change of mind and cast Shruti Hassan instead of Tamanna in the ‘Ramana‘ remake. The reason attached to this is that they wanted to cast the heroine who had not worked with Akshay earlier.

As Tamanna already acted with Akshay in a movie, she was opted out of this project.

Sonna Puriyathu – Tamil Movie Review

The promotional activities for the film was perhaps a major reason behind drawing us into the theatres. Sonna Puriyathu starring Mirchi Shiva and Vasundhara in lead roles is a romantic comedy that has a lot of witty lines from the actor. Not to miss the fact that the very opening scene of this films keeps you on huge laughter as he croons the Hindi version of Rosaappu song from Suryavamsam.

Mirchi Shiva enjoys his life as a dubbing artist for Hollywood and other foreign films and has no plans to get married. He perceives it to be a trap that will spoil his entire life without any freedom. All he dreams is about is buying a Volkwagan car.

When his mother theatens him on going for a long pilgrimage as a penance to get his son married, he accepts to enter wedlock with a TV anchor Anjali (Vasundhara), who happens to be a calm and innocent girl, who is too religious. But as the time pass by, they come to know about each other’s true identity. As they plot plans to stop the marriage without the attention of their parents, they find themselves married to each other after a hard night party.

The film opens with a pleasant touch as it goes on with some lively moments. Mirchi Shiva’s witty one liners stands out as the major highlight of this film. His mannerisms and body language on pars contribute a lot to the humour elements. Vasundhara does her part well in the role of an urban girl. Manobala as the owner of matrimony web portal adds to the hilarious portions.

The technical details of this film could have been better for the music and cinematography doesn’t stand well to enhance the feeling.

On the whole, Sonna Puriyathu can be watched for the comedy elements of Mirchi Shiva, while with screenplay, it could have been yet more crispy.

I Won’t Fall In Love: Nayantara

Sizzling actress Nayantara, who is active in Tamil film industry, has series of movie queued up. Amidst her busy schedule, Nayan took some time and spoke about her career.

In an interview, Nayantara said, “I am not into any gossip now, I am free and I have long list of upcoming movies in Tamil. I won’t fall in love here after.”

The actress was previously linked up with Tamil superstars like Dhanush, Simbu, Prabhudeva and Arya, but none of the relationship clicked. Nayan said that she doesn’t have any problem now and is fed up of link-ups.

She said, “Now I am single, I don’t have any problem and also I was fed up with all these gossips. Now I am busy with my upcoming projects and I love all those roles.”

Nayantara also added that she is not willing to fall in love hereafter as she is busy with her upcoming projects and hopes that the gossip will not disturb her career any more.

Nayantara to pair up with Jayam Ravi

Gorgeous and promising actress Nayantara who is cuttently busy with multiple projects has signed one more film, now opposite the talented Jayam Ravi to be directed by Raja.  The film marks the first combo of Jayam Ravi and Nayanatara while the former is working with Raja for the 7th time. Jayam Ravi-Jayam Raja duo always been a successful pair on the screen. 'M Kumaran s/o Mahalakshmi', 'Santhosh Subramaniam' are some of the hits that are given by this duo. It seems that the production may be done by AGS Company.

The 28-year-old actress confirmed that she has signed up the film after being impressed with the script. Nayanatara says that her role is not the usual run-of-the-mill role and that her character is central to the script.

Jayam Ravi is currently busy shooting for Boologam with Trisha and Nimirndhu Nil with Amala Paul. Nayantara, on a comeback trail in Kollywood at present, is starring in Ajith’s 'Valai' ,Udayanidhi Stalin's 'Idhu Kadhirvelan Kadhal' and with Arya in Raja Rani besides the heroine-oriented Anamika.

Vidiyal producer files a complaint against Sarath Kumar in Chennai Court

Sundararajan, producer of the upcoming Sarath Kumar-Sneha starrer Vidiyal, has filed a case with a Chennai Court accusing Sarathkumar of ‘deliberately delaying’ the making of the film thereby causing him losses to the tune of several lakhs.

The period film Vidiyal was launched in 2010 and has been directed by K.S. Selvaraj . The film’s completition progressed at a very slow ate as the shoots were never scheduled for a bulk date. To add to the woes of the film’s slow-progress, Sarath Kumar had a fall from the horse during the shooting of a stunt sequence and suffered fracture in the hips which made him take complete rest for a few months.

In the meanwhile, Sneha got married and Sarath reportedly started concentrating on other projects in Malayalam and Tamil. Now that four years have gone by since the film was launched and there is no trace of the film releasing in the near future, the producer has finally filed a case against Sarath Kumar accusing him of being solely responsible for the delay.

“As Sarath assured me that the film would be produced within a budget of Rs.4.25 crores, I paid Rs.91 lakhs as advance amount to him and signed him up. However, he neglected starring in our film and had gone ahead and finished his film (Chennaiyil Oru Naal) which had also been released. I, therefore, want the money paid to him returned to me along with interest applicable,” he has stated in his petition.

Seeman files complaint against Lingusamy of stealing his story

Director-actor Seeman had filed a complaint against fellow director Lingusamy with the Tamil Film Directors’ Association accusing the latter of ‘plagiarizing’ his script which was reversed for his now-abandoned film Pagalavan that was to starVijay in the lead. ‘Jayam’ Ravi has since stepped into the film as Vijay’s replacement but the film’s shoot is yet to commence.

The script is about a doctor who comes across many social anomalies and acts of injustice committed on the hapless public. As he realizes that he could do very little by remaining a mere doctor, he studies and becomes an IPS officer to take on the goons and the system. This was given as the script of Lingusamy’s upcoming untitled directorial venture which is to star Suriya in the lead role.

However, Seeman claims that this is the same script he had penned for Pagalavan more than an year ago. Soon after getting to know from the print media about the heist, Seeman promptly lodged a complaint with the Directors’ Association which then conducted an inquiry into the matter, following which it was concluded that Lingusamy had to part with the right to the script.

As the matter has now been amicably settled between both the parties, Lingusamy is now forced to cook up a new script which would have to be exciting enough to keep Suriya interested in it!

Producer of Kochadaiyaan dismisses rumors of film being dropped

Replying to rumours doing rounds in certain sections of the press that superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming 3-D animation venture Kochadaiyaan has been dropped, the producer of the film has dismissed all those rumours as ‘baseless’.

For the past few days, some sections of the print media and a news which claimed that Kochadaiyaan might not release at all. These were disturbing to Rajini’s millions of fans who had been waiting ever-so-patiently to watch their Thalaivar in action on screen, albeit in an animation film, after a long time.

Neither Rajini nor Soundarya appeared to be coming with a proper explanation to quell the rumours in this regard. When contacted, Dr. Murali Manohar, one of the producers of the film, was at a loss of words to explain his predicament. “These are all absolutely false rumours and I don’t know where from they emanate. We couldn’t go ahead with a couple of promotional activities due to utterly unavoidable circumstance.

“The film, though, has been progressing amazingly and whoever has watched it from among the technical crew has been floored by its grandeur. Rajini Sir has completed his portion of the dubbing and we would have to do some other work before releasing the film’s audio. We want to do it differently and hope Rajini’s fans would continue to be a little more patient to watch a magnum opus of this kind,” concluded Manohar.

The legendary late lyricist Vaalee, proved his passion for his work by writing all the way, till the day he was actually hospitalized for the final time. It was for Vasantha Balan's Kaaviya Thalaivan, and the song is called 'Kodaali Mudichu Pottu'.

Vaalee was supposed to write all the songs in the movie and he even assured the director from his hospital bed, that he would complete his commitments for the movie, but destiny had other plans.

'Kodaali Mudichu Pootu' would go down in history as the last song that Vaalee penned and it is a beautiful love number. Vasantha Balan also says that Vaalee had written another number, Vandhanam, for the film.

Meanwhile, his two numbers for Maryan, Sonapareeya and Netru Aval Irundhaal, have been welcomed with open arms by the people of Tamil Nadu. The success of Maryan has turned out to be a fitting tribute to the great man.

PVP Cinemas all set for Soodhu Kavvum’s Telugu remake

Ever since director Nalan Kumarasamy’s widely accepted Vijay Sethupathy feature – Soodhu Kavvum garnered a desired success at box office, a remake for it has been in the plans. Among the first in discussion were the Telugu and Hindi remakes of this flick. Among them, a Telugu release has now been officially confirmed !

As expected the cast and crew for this one will be chosen after critically assessing the market value of some leading Telugu performers confirms a representative of PVP Cinemas, who recently acquired the Telugu remake rights of Nalan Kumarasamy’s Soodhu Kavvum. In Telugu, the banner is credited with the flattering success of Ravi Teja’s Balupa, which went on to become the highest grosser in his career till date. It is for this reason that some industry insiders suspect Ravi Teja in its lead role following his close association with the banner.

Confirming the same, PVP Cinema updated its official micro blog , “Remember Soodhu Kavvum – Biggest ‎Tamil sleeper hits in 2013. PVP Cinema has geared up to remake this in ‎Telugu.”

In addition, the banner has been associated with the romantic fantasy Naan Ee, a sure success of 2012. These days, PVP Cinema has their undivided attention for Selvaraghavan’s Irandam Ulagam featuring Arya and Anushka in the lead. Being a big budget entertainer with some heavy CG effects complimenting the fantasy sequences, expectations are high from Selva and crew too.

Vadivelu misses out to Singam puli in Murthy’s Pappali

Murthy, the director of successful films such as Karuppasamy Kuthagaitharar and Vedigundu Murugesan, has just launched his third film as a director. Though both the films did reasonably well at the box-office, he had to toil it out for more than two years in search of his next.

Changing his name from Murthy to Govinda Murthy, he is now directing Pappali which has television actor-turned-hero Senthil and newcomer Ishara essaying lead roles. For the comedian’s role in the film, Murthy obviously wanted to cast Vadivelu as Vadivelu’s comedy tracks were huge successes in his earlier films.

However, when Murthy tried to get in touch with Vadivelu, he met with no success at all as the cellphone of the actor remained ‘switched off’ though he tried several times. After getting to know that Vadivelu was in Madurai, Murthy made another attempt to get in touch with the ace comedian. He could still not talk to him and has now roped in Singam Puli in place of Vadivelu.

Vadivelu is trying for a come back would certainly not want this to be a costly miss.

Akshay to star in Vipul Shah's 'Namasthey London' sequel

Akshay Kumar and Katrina starrer 'Namasthey London' was one of the biggest hits of the year 2007.  Directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah the romantic comedy film has been liked by the critics and audiences as well. The grapevine has been abuzz recently with rumours that Vipul Shah is planning to make the sequel to Namastey London.

According to the buzz, Vipul and two of his writers — Suresh Nair and Ritesh Shah – had been working on the sequel for two years and as Vipul’s luck would have it, it got ready on his birthday and Akshay decided to gift him the film on his special day.

Though the upcoming venture is a sequel, ‘Namastey London 2’ will apparently not be a continuation of the original movie. If rumours are anything to go by, the sequel will be a love triangle between two heroines and one hero.

Vipul said, “The philosophy of the film and most of the locations will be the same. We will be shooting in London, Punjab and Mumbai. The new additions are Germany and Switzerland. The sequel will be done on a more opulent scale as we don`t want to lose our audience. It has been challenging for us to reinvent ourselves. Both Akshay and I are really excited about it.”

"Namastey London" was the movie which turned Katrina’s career around and made her the most desirable actress to work with in Bollywood. It also highlighted the chemistry between Akshay and her which was later repeated in films like 'Singh Is King', 'De Dana Dan' and 'Teen Maar'

Mariyaan review

Movie: Mariyaan
Directed: Bharat Bala
Produced: Venu Ravichandran
Written & Screenplay: Bharat Bala, Sriram Rajan
Star Cast: Dhanush as Mariyaan, Parvathi Menon as Panimalar, Salim Kumar as Thomayya, Appukutty, Jagan, Uma Riyaz Khan, Rama, Imman Annachi, Vinayakan, Dagbeth Tweh
Music: AR Rahman
Cinematography: Marc Koninckx
Editing: Vivek Harshan
Studio: Aascar Films
Distributed: Venu Ravichandran

Love shatters all the hurdles and keeps you alive through the ages. Such is the immortality of its power. Mariyaan as Bharat Bala assured was to possess this mighty factor as its heart-and-soul. In contrast, the film fails to impress us to a greater extent.

The white salty sands embracing the sea is the backdrop and we see have Mariyaan (Dhanush), a fisherman with his eccentric skills. His love for Panimalar (Parvathi Menon) takes him to the desert yards of Sudan (Africa), where he is a worker on contract. A couple of years have passed by and he is almost done with the toilsome phase and is gleeful about the future he dreamt about. But on the spur-of-the-moment, he is abducted along with his pals by a terrorising group.

What’s more dis-satisfactory about Mariyaan is the brilliant work of actors and technicians going in vain. Dhanush stuns you with an un-matchable performance in places and keeps you hooked throughout the show. Be the scene, where he grieves over the grave of his pal Sakkarai (Appukutty), his frozen-senses reaction to the friend killed in front of him or his conversation with Panimalar by chiseling the baddies down there is superb. On the pars, Parvathi Menon (Poo fame) spells an enchanting charisma with her natural looks, splendid expressions and prodigious performance. She has inordinately exhibited the pathos and affinity of desolated Panimalar for her beau. She is here sure to establish her realms in Tamil industry. National award winner Salim is completely wasted and Uma Riaz as Dhanush‘s mom is okay.

Poor writing turns out to be the stark blemish here. In spite of actors striving to achieve ne plus ultra performance, the flimsy screenplay lets down us. Getting on with the technical aspects, AR Rahman‘s background score is good in few parts, but his experiments to blend ‘Country Music’ with the nativity here doesn’t have the right impact. On the other side, the background score for African portions, especially the one you hear during the intermission point is a remarkable showpiece. Songs proved to be the Chartbusters of this season, but they are nowhere close to the film. Naturally, ‘Kadal Rasa‘ is a good treat for the audience. Alas! The make-up quotients are completely flawed (don’t miss the Dhanush’s hair style that misses continuity from minute-to-minute).

The outstanding visuals of cinematographer Marc Konincks are appreciable for he gives us the feel of ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’ in places. Dialogues by Joe D Cruz isn’t appealing, except ‘Oru Moochukku Poi Innoru Moochukku Inga Iruppaen‘ (Mariyaan‘s promise to Panimalar), which is a metaphorical significance of a professional diver completing their underwater task at one breath in fraction of seconds. The stereotypical climax of Hero Vs Villain combat is completely unwanted here and is forced into the script here.

Overall, despite the fact that the actors and technicians have exerted their best, Bharat Bala fails to utilise these big brand factors. While the first half travels in a docu-drama style of picturing the nativity, the second hour remains engrossing in parts with a happy end. But when you walk out of theatres, you’ll feel something is missing here.

Shiva Sings in Hindi

The audio launch of comic actor Shiva’s upcoming ‘Sonna Puriyadhu’ happened last month. However, the team had deliberately excluded a Hindi track from the audio CD, in order to retain the surprise element. It turns out that the surprise is Shiva penning down and singing a Hindi number! Vietcong goes ‘Rosa Heh’.

Director Krishnan Jayaraj adds “We wanted it to be a through surprise. The story is quite simple. The dubbing artiste Shiva hates to get married, when his parents force him to see a girl. What happens afterwards and transpires between the two, forms the movie.” Vasundhra plays the lady lead of the film. According to the movie, Shiva dubs for English movies. Shot predominantly in the city, the film will be released by the son of the veteran film maker Rama Narayanan’s son, Ramaswamy.

Suriya open for direct Telugu movies ?

Suriya’s fanbase is not limited to Tamil audiences as we know and he is quite popular in Kerala and Andhra as well. His Singam 2 was dubbed in to Telugu and is receiving tremendous response from the critics and BO too. The actor at a recent success meet quipped that if all goes well and with a good script he might do a straight Telugu film as well.

Suriya is quite popular right from his Ghajini days and now that he is accepted by the local audiences as well, it is said that he is receiving many offers from the Telugu film makers for a Tollywood movie. Suriya already has a movie with Gautham V Menon and also one with Lingusamy, paired up with Samantha. So will he act in a Telugu film? It is for to wait and watch how it unveils.

Ajith, Vijay to clash at the box-office on Pongal next year?

The battle-lines are already drawn. Even before Ajith and Vijay’s upcoming films are released, the date of release of their next films has already been decided. It is predicted that Ajith and Vijay would have a ‘box office clash’ on the eve of Pongal next year.

Pongal Festival not only marks the celebration of harvest in Tamil Nadu; it also has a great significance in the minds of movie-goers as film-makers vie with each other to release their films on Pongal so as to ensure that their films are watched by the maximum possible number of audiences as Pongal invariably means that there would be at holidays for at least three days for the entire State.

Ajith’s upcoming film directed by Vishnuvardhan (which has been titled as Paravai?) is likely to release some time in September or after that whereas Vijay’s upcoming film Thalaivaa would be releasing on Independence Day (15th August). Vijay has already started shooting for debutant director Nesan’s Jilla which has Kajal Aggarwal opposite him. Mollywood’s megastar Mohanlal essays a prominent role in this film.

Ajith’s 54th film, is now almost 60% complete, with Tamannaah cast opposite him as the heroine. It is directed by Siruthai fame Siva and remains untitled as on date though rumours claim that the film has been tentatively titled as Vinayagam Brothers. A couple of songs in the film have been shot in the scenic locales of Switzerland, it is informed.

Two big hero film clashing on the same day might be fun for the fans, but certainly not for the producer. It is likely a plan is worked out in a manner both the parties land up in a win-win situation.
